Women's Basketball Win Streak Halted at Home

Box Score

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team fell, 62-56, to Randolph-Macon Tuesday evening in the Jane P. Batten Student Center. The loss halts the Marlins win streak at five, bringing their record to 9-11 overall and 6-5 in the conference. Randolph-Macon moves to 16-3 on the year (9-2 ODAC).

After trailing 19-11 through one quarter of play, the Marlins set out determined to gain some traction. They did that to start the second stanza as they went on a 7-0 run through the first 5:08, pulling within one. The two sides exchanged buckets for the next few minutes, but the Yellow Jackets scored six unanswered to end out the half.

Half number two mimicked the first with Virginia Wesleyan never able to make much of a jump on the deficit. That is until the midway point of the fourth, when a Naeemah Morris lay up put the marlins within four. The team would stay four points behind until the 0:06 mark though, never able to capitalize on its chances.

Jayla Harris led the offense on the night, recording 21, 14 coming in the second half. Amanda Gerni would pitch in nine, making two 3-pointers and one three the old fashioned way.

Guard Reagan Holmes also played well, picking up a team-high seven boards to go along with seven points.

Women's basketball picks up action again at 4:30 pm on Saturday as the team heads to Washington and Lee for some more conference play.
