VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's swim team closed out its regular season with a victory, downing Ferrum College, 106-70, Saturday afternoon at home.
Before the events, the team honored its two seniors, Jake Morgan and Wade Jernigan, for their hard work and dedication over the past year.
Stephen Carlo had an outstanding day for the Marlins, helping take part in four first-place finishes. Individually, the freshman nabbed the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.46 before taking first in the 100-yard free (55.56).
Kristian Rinkus also performed well as the Chesapeake, Va. native collected two individual wins as well. Rinkus was just .04 seconds off the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.19) before claiming first in the 50-yard free with a time of 24.72.
In the longer races, Patrick McNeely was just three seconds shy of a record in the 500-yard free, clocking in at 6:29.45.
The Marlins also found success in the relays as Carlo, Kyle Woolf, Morgan and Rinkus teamed up to take first in the 400-yard freestyle. The time was also good enough for a new school record.
Men's swimming will return to action in two weeks as the squad heads to Greenboro, N.C. for the ODAC Championships.
