NORFOLK, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan University men's and women's swim teams competed in a dual meet against Old Dominion University on Friday evening on the road.
It was a meet of firsts for the Marlin swim teams as the squad set times in a plethora of events that the programs have never swam in before. Miah Kurtz will be the top time holder in the 50-yard backstroke as she finished in 42.96 seconds and will be followed by Taylor Morich who clocked in at 43.52. In the same event on the men's side, Stephen Carlo will be the record holder as he clocked in at 30.50.
Continuing with the new 50-yard events, the men and women also had swimmers in the 50yd butterfly. Patrick McNeely took the top time for the men (30.92), while Allie Ghazeleh holds the top mark for the women (43.37).
Two swimmer came close to breaking current school records at the meet as Amanda Waller was just .40 of her own record in the 100-yard free (1:04.66) and Kristian Rinkus was .39 off his own record in the 100-yard breast stroke (1:10.39).
Both sides will be back in the pool at 1 p.m. on Saturday as they host Ferrum for Senior Day.
