Men's Tennis Stumbles at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. -- Playing through temperatures that approached 95 degrees on court, the Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team battled but came up short against Randolph-Macon College, 7-2, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets laid claim to two of the three doubles matches, and five of the six singles flights.

The Marlins received a great boost in the lineup from sophomore Paul Gladstone. The University of Florida transfer contributed to both of the Marlins' points on Tuesday afternoon. At second doubles, he paired with Joe Holloway for an 8-4 victory.  At first singles, he was able to rally from a set down to ultimately defeat his opponent, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.  Unfortunately, Gladstone's spark was unable to be replicated across the remaining courts, with Virginia Wesleyan battling hard but ultimately coming up empty.

"We've played much better tennis than that this year," said second-year head coach Marty Perry, "but this is a long conference season. We have a good chance to rebound this Friday against Emory & Henry."

Virginia Wesleyan (2-13/0-4) hosts Emory & Henry College (3-11/1-5) on Friday for a 3:30 p.m. ODAC start.
