Men Fall 6-3 to Randolph
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's tennis fell to Randolph College on Saturday by a score of 6-3 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.
After Nick Gunther and Brendan Kelleher gave the Marlins a lead with a victory at first doubles, the WildCats responded with a victory at the third slot. In a nail-biting finish, Joe Holloway and Andreas Combos fell at second doubles in a tiebreak, resulting in the Marlins heading into doubles facing a 2-1 deficit.
In singles, the top of the VWC line up flexed its muscle as sophomore Paul Gladstone and senior Brendan Kelleher each won in straight sets at first and second singles, respectively. Randolph claimed the remaining four flights of singles to secure the victory.
Saturday marked the VWC dual match debut for freshman Parris Willis. While Willis did not notch a victory in singles or doubles today, he gained valuable experience anchoring the bottom of the Marlin lineup. Along with his teammates, he will look to bounce back Sunday morning when Virginia Wesleyan (2-11/0-2) takes on Lynchburg (3-9/1-4).
