Box Score Marlins Cruise to 4-0 Victory over Wasps
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Emory & Henry College on Saturday afternoon.
The Marlins got on the board quickly, scoring a goal in the 17th minute to spark the offense. Brooke Adamchak sent a pass inside the six where Marli Hayward was able to one-touch it into the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season.
VWU scored a couple just before intermission to pull away from the Wasps. Sarah Heinbaugh found Ryan Applewhite on a long through ball at the 40:27 mark to make it 2-0. Applewhite then found Heinbaugh 66 seconds later for the third goal of the match.
VWU scored the final goal of the match at 76:13 when Madison Sanders sent a long ball to Kennedy Skala who managed to finish in front of the keeper.
Kayla Wright made seven saves for Emory & Henry (4-10-1/3-4-1) while Alicia Zamora made one stop for the Marlins.
VWU outshot Emory & Henry 23-2 with an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
Virginia Wesleyan (11-5-1/7-1) travels to Eastern Mennonite University (6-7-2/4-4) Wednesday for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest.
