Box Score Field Hockey Shuts Out Bryn Mawr 1-0
BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Freshman Cori Jackson's goal late in the first half was all that the Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team would need as the Marlins shut out Bryn Mawr College 1-0 on Sunday.
The Marlins dominated the first half, outshooting the Owls 8-2 in the first half. VWC held the home team without a shot until 20:30 into the contest when Yelin Jung's attempt was saved by Skye Swain.
Jackson found an opening in the Owl defense 29 minutes into the match when she collected a loose ball at the top of the circle, ripping a shot into the right side of the cage.
The second half was just as impressive for the Marlin defense as the squad held Bryn Mawr to just four more shots in the final period.
Swain (1-1) helped the cause for the Marlins, collecting three saves, including two down the stretch, to preserve the shutout. Angela Meng made six saves for Bryn Mawr (0-2).
Virginia Wesleyan held an 11-6 advantage in shots as the Owls edged out the Marlins 7-6 in penalty corners.
Virginia Wesleyan (1-1) travels to Neumann University (2-0) on Sunday, September 11 for a noon start.
