Field Hockey Drops 4-0 Decision to CNU

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team fell 4-0 to Christopher Newport University in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

CNU started quickly, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of the match before the Marlin defense stepped up to hold the Captains at bay for the remainder of the half.

The Captains first score came just over three minutes into the game Madison Doss scored on an unassisted attempt from the far post.

CNU added to that lead at 7:30 when a well played penalty corner found its way to Rachael Allshouse who finished off a snap pass off the stick of Calli Ioannou.

The Marlins turned away each subsequent penalty corner attempt taken by the Captains as the visitors held a 15-1 edge in that category.

Ioannou scored the third goal of the contest early in the second half off a Carol Thompson assist before Thompson dribbled in and ripped a shot for a goal of her own and the 4-0 decision.

Skye Swain made eight saves for the Marlins, while the Marlin offense possessed the ball well to finis with five shots, three coming on goal.

Virginia Wesleyan (2-5/0-1) travels to Washington and Lee (5-3/1-0) for a 2 p.m. ODAC start on Saturday.
