Box Score Marlins Drop Season Opener 3-0 to TCNJ
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College women's soccer team surrendered two goals in the first half and an insurance tally in the second to fall 3-0 to TCNJ in the first game of the Atlantic Orthopaedic Soccer Tournament.
TCNJ got on the board first at 21:26 when Christine Levering crossed it to Jessica Goldman who wasted no time in sending it to the back of the net. Levering was the recipient of a well-timed pass less than two minutes later when Abigail Emmert found her for the 2-0 advantage with more than 20 minutes to play in the opening period.
The Marlin defense held the Lions without another score until the second half when Goldman found Jen McGrogan for the 3-0 edge at 70:41.
Megan Gerhart made four saves for the Marlins while Jessica Weeder also stopped for shots for TCNJ.
Virginia Wesleyan (0-1) plays Austin College (0-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday in each team's final contest of the Atlantic Orthopaedic Soccer Tournament.
