Early Scores Doom Marlins in 4-0 Loss to FSU

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Frostburg State University scored twice in the first 10 minutes Saturday afternoon to defeat the Virginia Wesleyan field hockey team by a score of 4-0 in non-conference action.

Lindsay Gardiner started the action Saturday, finding the back of the cage just 1:41 into the game. Striking quickly, Meghan Hughes capitalized on an opportunity at 9:16 to put the Bobcats up 2-0.

Frostburg State scored once more in the first half as Ivy Meissner found Erin Barker on the back post for the deflected goal.

The Marlin defensive unit held Frostburg State to the three goals for most of the second half before Taylor Bowen found Jacquelyn Nava at the 62:57 mark for the final tally of the game.

Frostburg State held a 22-7 advantage in shots, but penalty corners were much closer as the Bobcats edged out Virginia Wesleyan by just one, 6-5.

Jacqueline Gover made five saves for Frostburg State (3-2) while Skye Swain stopped eight shots for the Marlins.

Virginia Wesleyan (2-3/0-0) hosts Lynchburg College (2-3/1-0) Saturday at noon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for the Marlins.
