Women's Tennis Defeats Bridgewater in Tight ODAC Contest

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's tennis team edged  Bridgewater College 5-4 today at the Everett Tennis Center.  Bridgewater came into the match with only four players missing others due to injury and illness.

The Eagles took first and second doubles 8-4 and 9-7 respectively.  VWC received the point from third doubles by default.

With the Marlins earning points from No. 5 and No. 6 singles by default, VWC needed to take two of the four singles matches for the win.  Senior Mia Proctor struck first for the Marlins with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Stephanie Barton at No. 1 singles.  Clinching the match for VWC was sophomore Jackie Lee with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ashley Price giving the Marlins a 5-4 victory.

With the win, the Marlins move to 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in ODAC play.  Next up for VWC will be a three match road trip starting next Friday when the Marlins will play Lynchburg College, Emory and Henry, and Roanoke College.
