NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College men's tennis team claimed two victories on Saturday at Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News.

In their first match, the Marlins took down Randolph College 5-0 in ODAC play. Since the match took place inside and on fewer than six courts it was played to decision.

The Marlins started out by sweeping all three doubles 8-4, 8-2, and 8-4 respectively.

With the Marlins up 3-0 and playing to decision they only needed two singles victories to clinch the match.  Finishing first was senior Graham Wilson with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brad Strober at No. 1 singles.  Clinching the match for the Marlins was senior Spenser Bullock with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 6.

In their second match of the day the Marlins took on Division I Hampton University at Centre Court.  This match was played to completion. Since it was a Division I competition, the winner of the most doubles matches receives one point towards the team score.

In doubles action, the Marlins went up 2-1 with wins from No. 2 Kenny Downing and Tyler Chang and No. 3 Spenser Bullock and Drew Tomajczyk 8-5 and 8-3 respectively.

In singles, senior Drew Tomajczyk drew first blood by taking No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-4.  With the Marlins up 2-0, junior Kenny Downing came back from a set down to take No. 2 singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.  Downing's win at No. 2 gave the Marlins a 3-0 lead.  Needing only one more point to clinch the match, senior Tlyer Chang came through with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.

Also picking up singles wins for the Marlins was No. 1 Graham Wilson and No. 3 Adam Rosemblaum.  Wilson came back from a set down to take his point 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. Rosemblaum also down a set early came back for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-3.

With the win, the Marlins improve to 8-5 on the season and hold a 3-0 record in the ODAC. VWC takes on Bridgewater College on Sunday at1pm.  The match will be at home at the Everett Tennis Center.
