Box Score Marlins Fall Short at Wesley
DOVER, Del. – The Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team scored twice Tuesday afternoon, but could not muster enough offense, falling 4-2 to Wesley College.
Wesley started the scoring just five minutes in when Allison Perugini found Lauren Niezgoda for her fourth goal of the season.
The Marlins responded at 19:21 when Asiah Allen extended her team lead in points by assisting on Taylor Wilhelm's first collegiate goal.
Niezgoda scored again on an unassisted attempt, following by a goal by Perugini to make it 3-1 going into intermission.
Wesley scored a fourth goal 13 minutes into the second half before the Marlins scored at 56:32, what would be the last goal of the game. Alyssa Ochsenfeld found Taylor Marshall for the second VWC score of the contest.
Makenzie McIntyre made seven saves for Wesley (2-11) while Skye Swain recorded the same number for the Marlins.
Virginia Wesleyan held advantages in shots (19-14) and penalty corners (7-2).
Virginia Wesleyan (2-7/0-2) hosts Roanoke College (8-1/2-0) Saturday in a noon ODAC match as part of Homecoming.
