Box Score Matisons Hat Trick Lifts Eagles over Marlins, 4-0
BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Emily Matisons scored the first three goals of Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest as Bridgewater College defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 4-0.
The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for the Marlins. Following the loss, Virginia Wesleyan is now in a two-way tie with Roanoke College for the fourth seed in the upcoming ODAC tournament, but owns the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Matisons first goal came at 9:03 when she ripped a shot from the middle of the circle that found the back of the cage. She capitalized again at 27:43 to help Bridgewater take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
She scored once more in the 55th minute off a rebound. Bridgewater took advantage of the momentum, scoring against just 76 seconds later when Matisons found Jacqueline DiFulvio for a goal to the right post.
Bridgewater held a 21-3 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in penalty corners.
Ali Bishops finished with three saves for Bridgewater (10-5/5-1) while Skye Swain stopped 12 shots for the Marlins.
Virginia Wesleyan (7-8/4-3) travels to St. Mary's (Md.) for a non-conference match Thursday at 3 p.m.
