Box Score Field Hockey Rolls to 12-0 Win over Sweet Briar
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team scored eight goals in the second half to defeat Sweet Briar College 12-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action Wednesday afternoon.
The win clinches a spot in the ODAC tournament for Virginia Wesleyan for the second straight campaign.
The 12 goals in a game ties the single game record set twice prior, against Hollins in 2004 and Randolph in 2006. The 45 shots taken by the Marlins are the fifth most taken by the squad in a single game in program history.
Lindsy Smarrelli started the scoring at 2:11, extending her streak of a goal in a game to three straight contests. Caitlyn Hogge, Taylor Marshall, and Asiah Allen all added scores in the first half.
Sweet Briar goalie Emily Dodson played well between the pipes in the first half, stopping 15 shots in the first 35 minutes, stopping another seven shots in the second half.
Kiley Jolicoeur made two defensive saves for Sweet Briar (0-11/0-5) while Kierstan Mullins also made a defensive save.
Alyssa Ochsenfeld started the scoring in the second half at the 39:35 mark. Allen scored twice in the second half to collect the hat trick. Jenna Serna also scored in the second half, as did Smarrelli, Kennedi Jones, while Taylor Wilhelm posted two and an assist.
Samantha Hollenzer and Skye Swain split time between the pipes for Virginia Wesleyan.
Virginia Wesleyan (7-7/4-2) travels to Bridgewater College (9-5/4-1) Saturday for a 7 p.m. ODAC start.
