Box Score Defense Pressured in 2-0 Loss to Goucher
TOWSON, Md. – The Virginia Wesleyan College field hockey team faced an oppressive attack by Goucher College on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 in non-conference action.
Goucher gained an early edge as Emily Jewell found Annie Carter just over 10 minutes into the contest to take the 1-0 lead.
The Marlin defense limited the Gophers to nine shots in the first half as first-year goalkeeper Skye Swain made five saves before intermission.
Olivia Dickert scored an insurance tally for Goucher at 60:16 off an assist from Melissa Joseph. Virginia Wesleyan's Alea Weaver ripped a shot late in the second half, but the chance was saved by Goucher to preserve the shutout.
Swain made 17 saves for the Marlins. Demie Huffman picked up the win in the cage for Goucher (1-1).
Virginia Wesleyan (1-2) travels to Frostburg State University for a 5 p.m. start on Saturday.
