Box Score Balanced Scoring Leads Marlins to 15-0 Victory
ROANOKE, Va. -- Three Marlins scored their first career goals as the Virginia Wesleyan College women's soccer team cruised to a 15-0 victory over Hollins University in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.
Virginia Wesleyan started the scoring early as Catherine Galway found Zoe Traficante just 1:36 into the game for the score. The Marlins went on to post a total of 10 goals on the scoreboard in the first half, led by two scores from Katie Roberts and a pair of Galway assists. Rosie Demirjian capped off the scoring in the first half with her first collegiate goal, heading in an assist from Kennedy Skala.
Madison Atkins scored a pair of goals in the second half, resulting in her first goal as a collegiate player and her first multi-goal game.
Virginia Wesleyan outshot Hollins (0-6/0-1 ODAC) 40-1 with an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. Audrey Halsley made nine saves for Hollins. Alexis Wheeler and Ariana Seaver split time in goal for VWC.
The Marlins got two goals from Kerry Knauss, Madison Sanders, Kaitlyn Clunan, and Atkins with single goals from Brooke Adamchak (first career), Kristen Cherry, Traficante, Annie Hartman, and Rosie Dermirjian. Galway led VWC with two assists while Ann Marie Moffett, Traficante, Abigail Nickle, Demirjian, Marissa Coombs, Skala, Hartman, and Knauss each posted a helper.
Virginia Wesleyan (3-5/1-0) hosts Randolph-Macon College (4-2/1-0) Tuesday for a 6 p.m. start.
