Box Score Marlins Control Pitch in 1-0 Victory over Randolph
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Virginia Wesleyan College women's soccer team did a good job of controlling possession in Tuesday night's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match with Randolph College, limiting the visitors to just one shot in a 1-0 victory.
The Marlins maintained possession in their half of the pitch the majority of the contest, allowing Randolph to make just several runs in the 90 minute of action.
VWC scored the only goal of the contest with under two minutes to play in the opening half as Zoe Traficante scored on an unassisted look at the 43:16 mark. The opportunity was set up when Madison Sanders made a good attempt at the goal, but her shot slammed off the crossbar and out to Traficante who managed an attempt six seconds later.
Randolph's lone shot came off a Virginia Wesleyan foul. Erin McClelland took the free kick and sailed the set piece just over the goal at the 65:48 mark. She would later make a save to prevent the Marlins from taking a 2-0 edge.
Virginia Wesleyan outshot the WildCats 40-1 with a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Quinn-Lynn Bates finished with 12 saves for Randolph (5-9-1/3-5 ODAC).
Virginia Wesleyan (9-7/7-1) travels to Guilford College (5-8-1/2-5) Saturday for a 5 p.m. ODAC start.
