Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Two goals in the second half helped to create some breathing room for the Bridgewater College field hockey team en route to posting a 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Virginia Wesleyan College's Marlins on Saturday.
Virginia Wesleyan (3-11, 1-4) managed only three shots in a second half, while the host Eagles (8-7, 4-1) stepped up their attack to record 10 shots. Alexandra Clement (Chesapeake/Great Bridge) and Allison Kirk (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) both scored in the half for Bridgewater, which has won five of its last seven outings. Clement connected in the 62nd minute, followed by Kirk in the 70th.
Bridgewater took the lead in the 21st minute on a goal by Rachael Loy (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood), chipping the ball into the cage off a shot by Shannon Strosser (Dover, Del./Smyrna).
Goalie Lindsay Baker (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) finished with a pair of saves for VWC. Amanda Harper (Virginia Beach/Tallwood) recorded two saves for Bridgewater.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Wednesday Oct. 22 when the Marlins motor to Ashland, Va., to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College in league play beginning at 3 p.m.
