Box Score ROANOKE, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College rookie Alexis Platt recorded her first intercollegiate double-double on Saturday to help the Marlins to a thrilling 68-55 overtime victory at Hollins University.
Platt (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne) connected on 7-of-12 shots en route to a career-high 19 points in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest, scoring six points in the overtime session which was dominated by VWC (12-5, 6-2). The Marlins outscored Hollins 17-4 to take the victory. Platt also pulled down 10 rebounds for VWC and recorded a game-high six steals.
Junior Brittany Glasco (Fredericksburg/Massaponax) also recorded a double-double for the Marlins, netting 18 points and pullding down a team-high 11 rebounds. She hit 8-of-15 shots from the field.
Hollins (5-12, 0-8) battled VWC evenly through regulation play, trailing the Marlins only 25-24 at halftime. HU came back in the second half to outscore VWC 27-26 to force the overtime. But, while the host team connected on just 12.5% from the field in the extra session, VWC hit a blistering 66.7% of its shots to take control.
Platt and Glasco were two of three Marlins to finish in double-figure scoring, as sophomore Kelly Jones (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) tallied 16 points, helped by an 8-of-10 effort from the free throw lines.
Platt broke a 51-all deadlock after regulation when she scored on a layup, assisted by junior Nancy Kelly (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney). Hollins missed several shots in the ensuing seconds and had one blocked by Glasco. The rebound after that block was pulled down by Kelly, who raced to the other end of the court to score on a layup off an assist from Platt.
VWC opened up a 57-52 lead before Jewell Parfitt (Roanoke/Patrick Henry) scored on a pair of free throws for Hollins. But, VWC outscored the host team 11-2 the rest of the way to record the win. Platt and Jones both scored six points in the OT for Virginia Wesleyan.
Parfitt topped Hollins scoring with 19 points, hitting 4-of-11 three-point shots. Chanci Wright (Eden, Texas/Eden) added 14 points and led all rebounding with 18.
