Virginia Wesleyan records 1-0 ODAC win at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's women's soccer Marlins recorded their ninth shutout of the season Friday night as the Marlins defeated host Shenandoah University 1-0 on Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.

Sophomore Jasmine Dao (Frederick, Md./Tucarora) scored the only goal of the game, her second of the season, hitting the back of the net in the 54th minute off a corner kick.  Kristen Cherry (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham B. Broughton) assisted on the play.

Virginia Wesleyan improved to 9-4-2 overall and to 6-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, while pinning just the second ODAC los of the season on the host Hornets.  Shenandoah dropped to 6-2-1 in the league and to 8-6-1 overall.

Shenandoah finished with a slim 9-6 lead in shots, but recorded a lopsided 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Megan Gerhart (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) recorded six saves for Virginia Wesleyan and Erin Septer (Hamilton, N.J./West) finished with three for Shenandoah.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. at Eastern Mennonite University in ODAC competition.
