Offense missing in Virginia Wesleyan loss at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. -- Entering Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) field hockey game at Shenandoah University, the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlins had recorded a definite scoring advantage over their opponents.

VWC out-goaled foes 23-15 en route to owning a 63-43 scoring advantage overall.

On Saturday, the offense never materialized. The Marlins mustered only three shots in 70 minutes of competition and dropped a 2-0 decision to the host Hornets of Shenandoah.

Virginia Wesleyan (6-5, 2-4) was held without a shot in the first half, but Shenandoah (6-8, 2-1) managed only two.  The Marlins recorded all three of their shots in the second half, while SU fired 11.

Kelanie Bailey (Norfolk/Maury) scored both of Shenandoah's goals, hitting the first just 1:28 into the competition.  Her second was on a penalty stroke at 57:06.

Goalie Lindsay Baker (Havertown, Pa./Haverford)recorded seven saves for the Marlins, all in the second half. Sarah Claire (Mechanicsville/Lee-Davis) had one save for SU.

Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Sunday, Oct. 13, playing a non-conference game at Wesley College (8-5) at 3 p.m.
