Box Score SALEM, Va. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's women's soccer team found the shots against Roanoke College's Maroons on Saturday, but could not find the goals.
Roanoke scored one goal in each half however, and recorded a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. It was the fourth straight win for Roanoke, which improved to 6-6-1 overall and to 4-3 in the league, while VWC lost for the third time in the last four games. The Marlins are now 7-4-2 overall and 4-3 in the ODAC.
Abbe Guarino (Centennial, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored off an assist from Marlana Barnard (Vienna/Bullis School, Md.) in the 34th minute to give Roanoke the lead. The Maroons rode the 1-0 score into the 76th minute when a header off a corner kick made it a 2-0 Roanoke lead. Ashley Barnes (South Elgin, Ill./Elgin) scored off the assist by Lauren O'Brien (Ponte Verdra Beach, Fla./Bishop Kenny High School).
Virginia Wesleyan finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots, while Roanoke posted a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Megan Gerhart (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn)recorded three saves for Virginia Wesleyan. Carolyn Sarbacher (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) finished with seven saves for Roanoke.
Virginia Wesleyan will try to regain momentum when it plays again on Tuesday, Oct. 15, hosting the Yellow Jackets (5-8) of Randolph-Macon College at 7 p.m. at the Trinder Center.
