Marlins remain undefeated with victory over Randolph

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- It took a while to get things done Tuesday, but Virginia Wesleyan College's women's soccer team recorded two late goals to post a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the host WildCats of Randolph College.

The Marlins scored two late goals to post a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the host WildCats of Randolph College. The victory improved VWC's overall record to 15-0-1, but more importantly moved the Marlins closer to clinching the top seed in the league's upcoming conference championship tournament. VWC is now 10-0-1 with only one league game remaining.  That game will be played on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. when the Marlins host the Maroons of Roanoke College.

VWC senior Krista Witmer (Lancaster, Pa./Millersville) ended the scoreless contest in the 60th minute, scoring off a corner kick from rookie Kaitlyn Clunan (Virginia Beach/Bayside).

Six minutes later the Marlins led 2-0 after junior Marta Deptula (Haskell, N.J./Paramus Catholic) scored of an assist from rookie Kristen Cherry (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton).

Virginia Wesleyan dominated the game, out-shooting the WildCats 37-0 and recording a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Erica Keil (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) played in goal for the Marlins and Hunter Gibson (Newport News/Denbigh Christian) did the same for Randolph (8-7, 3-7).  She recorded 13 saves.
