Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH -- Brittni Dennis not only scored her first goal of the season in Virginia Wesleyan College's 10-0 victory over Sweet Briar College on Wednesday, she also scored her second and third.
The sophomore fromStephens City, Va. (Sherando) led scoring effort for the No. 12-ranked Marlins in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest on Foster Field at the Trinder Center. She scored her goals consecutively, the first in the 66th minute, the second in the 68th minute, and the third on a line drive from the right in the 77th minute.
The victory improved VWC's record to 9-0 overall and to 2-0 in the league, while Sweet Briar fell to 1-4 and 0-2.
Junior Jessica Edelman (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) extended her scoring streak to nine consecutive games with a pair of second half goals. She tallied in the 47th minute and again in the 53rd, both on the run.
VWC's steady scoring night started in the 12th minute on a shot into the net by junior Christina Fernandes (Tinton Falls, N.J./Tinton Falls) off an assist from Kristyn Anselmo (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). Jackie Togno (Stroudsburg, Pa./Moravian Academy), Allison Jaimes (El Dorado Hills, Calif./Shingle Springs Ponderosa), and Cat Whited (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) all followed with goals. Rookie Caitlyn Bishop (Virginia Beach/Princess Anne) closed scoring in the 79th minute.
Virginia Wesleyan out-shot the Vixens 34-1 and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Rachel Calkins (Pauma Valley, Calif./Temecula Great Oak), Bethany Bayles (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park), and Alyssa Goodwin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) posted minutes protected the goal for VWC. Lindsey Wilson (Bedford, Va./Liberty) was in goal for Sweet Briar and recorded 12 saves.
VWC returns to competition on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Hollins University in ODAC action beginning at 2 p.m.
