Box Score SALISBURY, Md. -- Angel Horowitz (Bushkill, Pa./East Stroudburg North) had the right angle at the right time Wednesday when she booted the ball past the Salisbury University goalie to score the game-winning goal for Virginia Wesleyan College in the 102nd minute of a non-conference battle.
Junior Jessica Edelman (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) stretched her scoring streak to six consecutive games, as she came through with the assist on the Horowitz goal to end the game. The 3-2 double overtime victory kept the visiting Marlins, ranked No. 15 nationally, undefeated in six games and improved VWC's record to 7-0-3 in the last 10 outings against the Maryland team.
Salisbury (2-3) held a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sarah Jessilonis in the 35th minute and rode it most of the game. But, Christina Fernandes (Tinton Falls, N.J./Tinton Falls) tied the game in the 74th minute off an Edelman assist, starting a surge of three goals in a span of eight minutes.
Salisbury jumped back in front at 2-1 in the 81st minute on a goal byMorgan Brasch (Sewell, N.J./Clearview), but Virginia Wesleyan tied the scored 74 seconds later when Danielle Stephens (Round Hill, Va./Purcellville, Loudoun Valley) tallied off a cross from Bre Ingargiola (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point).
Virginia Wesleyan held Salisbury without a shot in overtime. The Marlins had one shot in each OT, with the Horowitz game-winner ending the battle.
Salisbury finished with an 18-11 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 showing in the first half. The Sea Gulls also posted a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalie Erica Keil (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) recorded six saves for the Marlins. Michelle Conrad (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) had three saves for SU.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Saturday, Sept. 17, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game at Eastern Mennonite University at 7 p.m.
