VIRGINIA BEACH -- Rookie Ryan Sadinki emerged as a two-time winner Saturday for the Virginia Wesleyan College men's tennis team, but the Marlins fell short in their bid for a team victory. (Match results)
The Marlins dropped a 6-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference decision to the Maroons of Roanoke College on the Penzold Courts, but Sadinski (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) (left) came through with victories at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles.
Sadinski improved to 4-2 against ODAC competition as he posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Charles Graves (South Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton Wenham). In doubles, rookie Sky Masand (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch)combined skills with Sadinski to roll to an 8-2 win over Alex Lyons (Topsfield, Mass./St. John's) and Chris Migliarese (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley).
Virginia Wesleyan (3-9) fared well in doubles overall, winning at two of the three flights. The sophomore duo of Jamie Griffin (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson )and Donnie Greathouse (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) improved to 7-4 overall, and to 7-1 against ODAC opponents), with a thrilling 8-6 win over Greg Migliarese (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) and Graves.
Virginia Wesleyan returns to competition on Sunday, Apr. 3, hosting Lynchburg College at 1 p.m. on the Penzold Courts.
