BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- It was a "Three-G Victory Day" for Virginia Wesleyan College's tennis teams in Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition at Bridgewater College.
Rookie Cay Gee (Parkton, Md./Hereford) and sophomores Donnie Greathouse (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and Jamie Griffin (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) emerged as winners for the Marlins.
Gee provided the only win for the women in an 8-1 loss to the host Eagles, as she bounced Ally McConaughy (Columbia, Conn./East Catholic) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for her third straight victory, improving to 7-2 this season.
Greathouse came through for the Marlin men with a win at No. 6 singles and teamed with Grffin for the victory at No. 3 doubles, as VWC fell 7-2 to the Eagles. Greathouse defeated Matthew Chaulkin (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) 6-2, 6-3 in singles, improving to 3-2 in ODAC competition. The duo of Greathouse and Griffin improved to 6-1 against league competition with a hard-fought 9-8 (8-3) win over Tim Gower (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Chaulkin.
Virginia Wesleyan competes again on Wednesday, Mar. 30, when the women travel to Salisbury, Md. to take on Salisbury University at 3:30 p.m. The men play again on Saturday, Apr. 2 when the men host Roanoke College at 9 a.m. and take on Lynchburg College at 2 p.m.
