Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Marlins Dominate Singles Play in 6-1 Win Over Lynchburg

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team put together a dominant performance, defeating Lynchburg 6-1 on the road.

After dropping the doubles point, the Marlins quickly flipped the momentum in singles play, sweeping all six matches to secure the convincing victory. Virginia Wesleyan earned its lone doubles win at the No. 1 position, where Tuva Flink and Jette Hafermann teamed up for a 6-2 victory. However, Lynchburg claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the early lead.

Singles play was all Virginia Wesleyan from the start. Flink set the tone at No. 1 singles with a strong 6-2, 6-3 win, while Zoe Vliegen followed with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2.

At No. 3, Sarah Reich delivered the most tightly contested match of the day. After dropping the first set 7-6 and falling behind again in the second, Reich battled back to force a third set and ultimately won in a match tiebreak, outlasting her opponent to secure the point.

The Marlins continued to dominate down the lineup. Hafermann cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4, while Jette Dammeier earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 5. Lexi Hackbirth closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6.
