Marlins Shine Across the Lineup in 6-1 Triumph

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team delivered a commanding performance on the road Saturday, defeating Randolph College by a 6-1. The Marlins set the tone early with a sweep of all three doubles matches and carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of six courts to secure the convincing victory.

The doubles lineup wasted no time establishing control of the match. At the top spot, Tuva Flink and Jette Hafermann were sharp and efficient, earning a 6-2 win with consistent baseline play and strong net finishes. The No. 2 pairing of Lexi Hackbirth and Jette Dammeier matched that effort with another 6-2 victory, keeping Randolph on the defensive throughout. In the third doubles position, Mikisha Thomas and Sarah Reich completed the sweep with a 6-4 win, pulling away late to give Virginia Wesleyan a 3-0 lead heading into singles.

In singles action, the Marlins continued to apply pressure across the lineup. Flink led the way at No. 1 with a straight-sets victory, 6-2, 7-5, controlling the first set comfortably before holding off a tighter challenge in the second. Zoe Vliegen added another decisive win at No. 3, taking her match 6-3, 6-4 with steady shot-making and strong court coverage.

Hafermann secured a win at No. 4 after her opponent retired, as she was in position to close out the match following a strong start. Hackbirth was equally impressive at No. 5, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory with consistent groundstrokes and solid serving. At No. 6, Dammeier battled through a competitive opening set before pulling away, winning 7-6, 6-1 to cap off the Marlins' dominant day.

Randolph's lone point came at No. 2 singles, where Reich pushed the match to three sets but ultimately fell in a tightly contested battle, 4-6, 6-4, 5-7.
