The Virginia Wesleyan University women's flag football team made program history on Senior Day, earning its first-ever victory while sweeping a doubleheader against the University of Virginia Club Team. The milestone moment came in front of the home crowd as the Marlins also celebrated senior Charity Egbo for her contributions to the program.
Game One:
Virginia Wesleyan's first win in program history came in dominant fashion, as the Marlins used a high-powered offense and a suffocating defense to roll past UVA, 44-7.
After falling behind early, the Marlins quickly responded when Kendall Abercrombie connected with Antonia Mohren for a touchdown to give Virginia Wesleyan its first lead of the day. From there, the game was firmly in Marlins control.
The defense proved to be the difference-maker, led by a historic performance from Bre Robinson. Robinson recorded four interceptions, returning three of them for touchdowns, completely shifting the momentum and putting UVA on its heels.
Abercrombie led the offense efficiently, throwing for over 150 yards and three touchdowns while also adding a rushing score. Mohren was her top target, finishing with five receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns, while Robinson added a receiving touchdown to cap off her standout performance.
Virginia Wesleyan continued to build its lead throughout the game, scoring in every quarter after the opening frame. The defensive unit, anchored by Robinson, Egbo, Brianna Caro-Barrios, and Elizabeth Kelly, consistently disrupted UVA's offense and forced multiple turnovers.
By the final whistle, the Marlins had secured a convincing 44-7 victory—marking the first win in program history and a moment the team will not soon forget.
Game Two:
Virginia Wesleyan completed the doubleheader sweep with another strong all-around performance, defeating the University of Virginia Club Team, 19-6.
The Marlins struck quickly to open the game, as Kendall Abercrombie connected with senior Charity Egbo for a 64-yard touchdown pass on just the third play from scrimmage. The explosive play gave Virginia Wesleyan an early 6-0 lead and set the tone offensively.
UVA answered late in the first half to tie the game at 6-6, but the Marlins responded in the second half with complete control on both sides of the ball.
Virginia Wesleyan reclaimed the lead midway through the second half with a methodical 10-play, 63-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown, followed by a successful conversion to make it 13-6. Just minutes later, the Marlins capitalized again, adding another touchdown to extend the lead to 19-6.
Defensively, the Marlins continued their dominant play from Game One. Bre Robinson led the unit with seven tackles and added an interception return for a touchdown, while Abercrombie recorded two interceptions of her own. The defense as a whole forced multiple turnovers and consistently shut down UVA drives, including a key goal-line stand that preserved momentum.
Abercrombie paced the offense with 145 passing yards and two touchdowns, spreading the ball to multiple playmakers. Antonia Mohren added a touchdown reception, while Robinson contributed 38 receiving yards to keep the chains moving.
The Marlins' defense sealed the game late, holding UVA scoreless in the second half and limiting them to minimal rushing production.
