Marlins Gain Valuable Experience Against Barton

The Virginia Wesleyan University women's flag football team fell to Barton College, 120–0, on Saturday afternoon in a road matchup on Feb. 28.

Barton struck early and maintained momentum throughout the contest, building a 32–0 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 68–0 by halftime. The home team added 34 points in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth to account for the final margin.

Despite the final score, the Marlins generated 13 first downs and totaled 171 yards of offense. Virginia Wesleyan recorded 85 rushing yards on 18 attempts (4.7 yards per carry) and added 86 passing yards through the air.

Jaedyn Espy led the ground effort and contributed through the air as well, finishing with three receptions for 18 yards. Elizabeth Kelly paced the Marlins in receiving yards with 19 on three catches, while Antonia Mohren added 26 yards on two receptions. Gabrielle Isenberg and Brianna Caro-Barrios each chipped in receptions as Virginia Wesleyan spread the ball to six different receivers.

Defensively, Elizabeth Kelly led the Marlins with five total tackles, including one tackle for loss. Jaedyn Espy followed with four tackles and two tackles for loss, while Brianna Caro-Barrios added two stops with a tackle for loss. Kendall Abercrombie recorded an interception with a seven-yard return to highlight the defensive effort.
