Virginia Wesleyan women's flag football delivered a dominant performance from start to finish, building an early lead and cruising to a 40-18 victory over Radford.
The Marlins wasted no time setting the tone, scoring on their opening possession and capitalizing on early Radford miscues. A deep connection from Kendall Abercrombie to Antonia Mohren set up the game's first touchdown, and moments later, Abercrombie powered in a short rushing score to quickly extend the lead. By the end of the first quarter, Virginia Wesleyan had surged ahead 20-0 and firmly controlled the momentum.
Virginia Wesleyan continued its offensive efficiency in the second quarter. Abercrombie found Charity Egbo for a touchdown through the air and later added another scoring drive on the ground, helping the Marlins take a commanding 34-0 lead into halftime. The offense was balanced and explosive, finishing the game with 337 total yards, including 306 through the air.
Abercrombie was the centerpiece of the performance, accounting for six total touchdowns, three passing and three rushing, while throwing for over 300 yards. She also contributed on defense with an interception, showcasing her versatility across all phases of the game.
The Marlins added one more score in the third quarter when Abercrombie connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 40-0 and putting the game well out of reach.
Radford mounted a late push in the fourth quarter, scoring three touchdowns to narrow the final margin. Quarterback McKayla Meadows threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns, with Kailyn Brawley serving as her top target. Brawley recorded an impressive 186 receiving yards and all three of Radford's touchdown receptions, including a long 46-yard score.
Despite the late surge, Virginia Wesleyan's defense held firm when it mattered most. The unit forced multiple turnovers, including three interceptions, and limited Radford's rushing attack to negative yardage on the day.
