The Virginia Wesleyan University baseball (8-4) team dropped a midweek contest to No. 2 Salisbury University, 20-6.
James Tassone led the Marlins going 1-for-1, with an RBI, Isreal Dozier was 1-for-2, and scored two runs. Bryce Folmar was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and teammate Nick Valentin was 0-for-3 with an RBI.
The Marlins came out swinging in the bottom of the first. After drawing a pair of walks, Israel Dozier delivered a single through the left side that brought home two runs, both scoring on the play and an ensuing outfield error. Later in the inning, Nathan Bryant reached on a miscue by the pitcher, allowing Dozier to cross the plate and give Virginia Wesleyan an early 3-0 advantage.
After Salisbury evened the score in the second, the Marlins answered again in the third. Dozier worked a walk to spark the rally, and James Tassone followed with an RBI single through the left side. Bryce Folmar added an RBI single of his own, and Nick Valentin produced a run-scoring fielder's choice as Virginia Wesleyan capitalized on defensive errors to reclaim a 6-3 lead.
Salisbury responded with a big fourth inning to take control and continued to add on over the next two frames to widen the margin and seal the win over the Marlins.
