Virginia Wesleyan battled throughout the lineup but came up short in a 6-1 loss to Hampton University.
Despite the final score, the Marlins showed fight across both doubles and singles play, with several players stepping up against a strong Hampton squad.
In doubles action, the teams of Jette Dammeier and Mikisha Thomas, Tuva Flink and Jette Hafermann, and Lexi Hackbirth and Zoe Vliegen each faced tough competition. Hackbirth and Vliegen turned in the most competitive showing at No. 3 doubles, pushing their opponents before falling 6-4.
Virginia Wesleyan found its highlight in singles play at No. 3, where Jette Hafermann earned the Marlins' lone point after her opponent was forced to retire. She battled through a challenging match and was rewarded with the victory.
At the top of the lineup, Zoe Vliegen competed hard at No. 1 singles, while Tuva Flink at No. 2 and Lexi Hackbirth at No. 4 continued to grind through long rallies against experienced opponents. Sarah Reich at No. 5 and Mikisha Thomas at No. 6 also showed resilience, fighting for every point despite the final results.
Virginia Wesleyan University will look to build on these efforts and continue developing as the season moves forward.
