Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 23 Mary Washington

The Virginia Wesleyan University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 23 Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon at the UMW Indoor facility in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Mary Washington claimed the doubles point by sweeping all three flights. At No. 1 doubles, Jed Platts and Josh Buckland battled but fell 6-4. The No. 2 pairing of Ayaan Choudhary and Simon Öster pushed their match to the limit before dropping a tight 7-5 decision, while Tudor Vlad and Hovo Madanyan were defeated 6-0 at No. 3.

In singles play, Virginia Wesleyan picked up its lone point at No. 5 singles. Josh Buckland earned a hard-fought three-set win, bouncing back after dropping the first set to take the match in a 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 super tiebreak victory.

At No. 2 singles, Ayaan Choudhary also went the distance in a closely contested match but came up just short in the super tiebreak, falling 7-5, 5-7, 10-2. Jed Platts was defeated at No. 1 singles in straight sets, while Tudor Vlad (No. 3) and Simon Öster (No. 6) also fell in two sets.
