The Virginia Wesleyan University women's basketball team (7-4, 1-1 ODAC) defeated non-conference opponent Stockton University, 75–61, on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Brianna Long led the team with a double-double scoring 19 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the field, 3-for-3 from the free throw line, 14 rebounds, had two blocks, and one steal.
Keira Bagwell tallied 10 points, shooting 4-for-7 from the field, and had three rebounds.
Maesyn Blaylock also tallied 10 points, shooting 4-for-11 from the field, 2-for-2 from the free throw line, and had seven rebounds.
Virginia Wesleyan had an excellent start to the game, going on a 12-2 run in the first five minutes of the game. Stockton responded in the last four minutes of the game, going on a close 10-9 run to cut the gap to 12-19 going into the second quarter.
Both teams came out strong to open the second quarter, with each side trading baskets during a 6-6 run over the first five minutes of play. The back-and-forth scoring kept the momentum high, but the Marlins held a 18-25 lead at the 5:54 mark. The Marlins continued to hold the lead and ended the second quarter with a 7-4 run, leaving the score at 22-32 going into halftime.
The Marlins continued to play hard, and entered the third quarter strong with a 8-2 run in the first four minutes of play to bring to score to 24-40. Stockton responded quickly with a 8-4 run of their own to chip away at the score, bringing it to 32-42 at 4:22. However, the Marlins quickly recovered in the last minutes of play, going on a 14-8 run to leave the score at 38-56 going into the final frame.
The fourth quarter started with both teams going shot-for-shot. Both teams went on a 9-9 run in the first four minutes of play, although the Marlins held the lead at 47-65. Stockton responded to the even run by going on a 15-10 run in the remaining minutes of the game. Despite the Osprey outscoring the Marlins in the last quarter 23-19, the Marlins held the lead and sealed the 75-61 win.
