The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (3-0-1) earned a 1-1 draw against Mary Hardin-Baylor (1-1-2) on Sunday at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.
The Marlins were led offensively by
Alaina Alston, who scored her second goal of the season in the 89th minute off an assist from
Shyenne Diaz. Goalkeeper
Allie Greco played the full 90 minutes in net, making one save to help secure the draw.
In the first half, Virginia Wesleyan fell behind 1-0 but maintained control of possession and created several scoring opportunities. The Marlins came out strong in the second half, applying consistent pressure. Their persistence paid off late in the game when Alston's goal in the 89th minute, just 45 seconds from the final whistle, tied the score at 1-1, preserving the Marlins' unbeaten record.
Virginia Wesleyan outshot the opposition 16-3, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Marlins also held a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Marlins return to action on
Saturday, September 13, at 3:30 p.m., when they host the University of Mary Washington at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.
