The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (3-1-1) played a hard-fought match but came up short in a 2-0 contest against Mary Washington (5-1-0) on Saturday afternoon at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex.
Virginia Wesleyan created several early scoring opportunities, keeping Mary Washington's defense busy in the first half. Goalkeeper
Allie Greco recorded two saves during the period, as the teams went into halftime separated by a single goal.
Mary Washington opened the scoring in the 32nd minute and added a second goal in the 70th minute, but Virginia Wesleyan continued to generated scoring chances throughout the second half.
VWU finished with four total shots, including three on goal, and recorded two corner kicks while pushing to create additional opportunities. Greco anchored the defense with three saves in net in her 90 minutes of play.
