The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (3-0-0) earned a 2-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph University (1-1-0) on Friday evening at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex.
The Marlins offense was powered by goals from
Paige Bissell and
Kaylyn Seitz, while
Shyenne Diaz added an assist in the win. Goalkeeper
Allie Greco played the full 90 minutes in net, earning the shutout without facing a shot on goal to improve to 3 wins on the year.
VWU opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Bissell netted her first goal of the season off a pass from Diaz. Just before halftime, Seitz found the back of the net in the 46th minute to double the Marlins' advantage heading into the break.
Virginia Wesleyan controlled the match from start to finish, out shooting the Lions 14-1, including a 5-0 edge in shots on goal. The Marlins also dominated from the corner flag with a 7-0 advantage. Defensively, VWU held MSJ without a shot on frame, securing the team's second consecutive clean sheet.
The Marlins return to action on
Sunday, September 7, at 11:00 a.m., when they host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex in Virginia Beach.
