The Virginia Wesleyan University women's soccer team (5-2-1, 0-1-0) opened Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon with a tough 4-0 setback against Washington and Lee (5-2-1, 1-0-0) at Foster Field at the Tassos Paphitis Soccer Complex.
The Marlins battled throughout the match, with goalkeepers
Allie Greco and
Riley Keefe splitting time in net to anchor the defense. Both made key stops and helped keep Virginia Wesleyan competitive while the offense worked to generate scoring opportunities. The Generals had the better opportunities and converted two goals to lead 2-0 at halftime.
Virginia Wesleyan recorded five total shots, including three on goal, along with one corner kick, as they pushed to find a breakthrough. Both teams finished even in fouls at nine apiece. However, Washington and Lee added two more goals in the second half to seal the 4-0 win.
