The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team (4-6, 2-2 ODAC) traveled to Newport News, Virginia to face Division III powerhouse, No. 25 CNU, in a non-conference dual match. Despite a 7-0 loss, the young Marlin team competed well at every position.

Kendal Chang and Samantha Robertson of CNU claimed the first win of the day at #3 doubles over Mikisha Thomas and Zoe Vliegen. Soon after, the Captains won by the same score at #2 over Lina Hackner and Sarah Reich to secure the doubles point.

Tuva Flink and Jette Hafermann paired at the top spot in doubles to face the 15th ranked team in the country composed of Raine Weis and Kylie Schaefer. The Marlin duo challenged the seasoned team, but came up short 6-3.

In singles play, the Captains emerged victorious at #6 over Mikisha Thomas, and then at #1 over Tuva Flink, to stretch their lead to 3-0. At the #2 position, Zoe Vliegen fell to Kylie Schaefer by a score of 6-2, 6-2 to put the Captains just one win away from victory.

Sarah Reich was edged by her opponent, Lindsey Bergelin 6-4, 6-1 at the fifth position to clinch the match for CNU as Jette Hafermann and Lina Hackner continued to battle in their singles matches.

Jette Hafermann lost in two close sets, 6-4, 6-3, to her opponent, Samantha Robertson, at #4. After losing the first set 6-0 at #3, Lina Hackner worked her way back into the match, winning the second second 6-3. The third set was played in a ten-point tiebreaker format since the match had already been decided. After a long battle, Eva Taylor closed out the set 10-5 over Hackner.
