The Virginia Wesleyan University women's tennis team (9-8, 7-3 ODAC) wrapped up regular season with a 6-1 defeat of Randolph-Macon College. The Marlins honored
Grace McGhee for Senior Day.
Sarah Reich and
Grace McGhee paired at the third doubles position for the first time this season and fell 6-2.
Tuva Flink and
Jette Hafermann captured a 6-4 win at the top spot over Camilla Thurman and Catherine Mowry, which left #2 to decide the doubles point.
Zoe Vliegen and
Mikisha Thomas found themselves down 5-3 but fought back to win in a tiebreaker to put the Marlins up 1-0.
Sarah Reich at #4 and
Haley Haydon at #6 dominated singles play, dropping only three games each to stretch the Marlin lead to 3-0. Clinching the Marlin win at #3 was
Lina Hackner, who seized a convincing win over Meckenzie Letellier by a score of 6-3, 6-0.
Next to finish was
Mikisha Thomas who made a monstrous comeback after losing the first set 6-0; she reversed the momentum of the match, winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-2.
Zoe Vliegen also found herself down a set but fought back to win her match 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 over Catherine Mowry.
The last match on was court one, where
Tuva Flink led Camilla Thurman 5-4 in the first set but was unable to close, losing 7-5, 6-4.
After an impressive season, the Marlins have secured the fourth seed in the ODAC Tournament and will host Shenandoah University on Tuesday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m.
