The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team (8-8, 6-3 ODAC) traveled to the University of Mary Washington to face the No. 27 ranked Eagles.
The home team jumped to a 1-0 lead with wins at all three doubles positions over the Marlins.
Tuva Flink and
Jette Hafermann fell 6-1 at the top spot.
Zoe Vliegen and
Mikisha Thomas came up short by a score of 6-2 at #2; and
Lina Hackner and
Sarah Reich fell by the same score at #3.
Tuva Flink battled Addison Felts at the top of the singles lineup and fell by a score of 6-1, 6-2; and
Zoe Vliegen fell to Natalie Kim at #2 to put the Eagles ahead 3-0.
Jette Hafermann captured the lone Marlin win of the day at the fourth singles position over Jacey Copeland by a score of 6-2, 6-4 to bring the score to 3-1.
Evelyn Snyder clinched the match for Mary Washington at #6 over
Mikisha Thomas by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Lina Hackner was next to finish, coming up short against Linda Dimitroff 6-3, 6-1 at #3; and last on court was
Sarah Reich, who fell in a close three set battle. Reich won the first set 6-4 and lost the second 6-0; and since the match was decided, the third set came down to a ten-point tiebreaker by a score of 10-7.
The Marlins competed at every spot against the nationally ranked Eagles, improving from their dual match last year. The women are set to host Randolph-Macon College on Sunday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m for their final match of regular season play.
