The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team achieved a national ranking of No. 67 in the latest ITA Division III Rankings following their 4-3 defeat of Randolph College. This marks the second time in Marlin history that the men's tennis team has achieved a national ranking and also second year in a row for them to accomplish this feat. Last year, the squad ended with a national ranking of 48th.
The Marlins currently hold a 9-9 overall record and a 7-3 conference record at the end of regular season play under head coach,
Toni Bickford, and her assistants,
James Moskowitz and
John Brinkman. The ODAC conference has been particularly competitive this year with six nationally ranked teams. Virginia Wesleyan stands fifth in the conference beneath Washington and Lee University, Averett University, Shenandoah University, and Hampden-Sydney College. The Marlins played a challenging schedule this year as they faced eight nationally ranked teams. Their first win against a nationally ranked opponent this season came against Hampden-Sydney College on March 28; and their second came against Randolph College on April 19.
The No. 67 Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team has earned a spot in the ODAC quarterfinals, and their opponent will be determined once regular season has concluded for all other ODAC teams. The quarterfinal match will be played Wednesday, April 30 at 2:00 p.m.
