The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team (8-9, 6-3 ODAC) completed their weekend campaign with a convincing 6-1 win over Guilford College.
The Quakers secured a 6-4 win over
Sebastien Muller and
Hovo Madanyan at #1 doubles; but the Marlin duo of
Tudor Vlad and
Sainandan Challagundla leveled the match with a 6-2 victory at the third position. Deciding the doubles point in favor of VWU was the twin pair of Rafael and
Carlos Rullan Zarraga, winning 6-3 over Henry Austin and Evan Wong.
Guilford picked up their lone singles win at the top spot in singles over
Tudor Vlad; but the Marlins won the remaining matches.
Rafael Rullan Zarraga battled from a set down at #2 to defeat Brandon Hermes 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Francis Cabaddu,
Sebastien Muller, and
Hovo Madanyan won in straight sets at positions three through five. At the sixth position,
Sainandan Challagundla was pushed to a third set where a ten-point tiebreaker decided the match; and he emerged victorious 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.
Next, the Marlins will host Randolph College on Saturday, April 19 at 12:00 p.m. to conclude regular season play.
