The Virginia Wesleyan baseball team (6-12, 2-9 ODAC) fell in a close contest to No. 3 University of Lynchburg. The Marlins led for the majority of the game, but the Hornets managed to put together an impressive comeback in the ninth inning.
Edgar Harwood played a well-rounded game, going 1-for-3 at bat with one run and two RBI.
Ty James contributed to the Marlins as he went 3-for-5 at bat and scored one run.
The Hornets scored one run in the first inning to take an early lead over the Marlins.
VWU responded with two runs in the bottom of the second inning as
Ty James doubled to left field and was followed by
Edgar Harwood who hit the ball out of the park for a home run.
The Marlins stretched their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third.
Nick Valentin singled to center field and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. He then scored on a throwing error as
Ty James doubled through the left side.
Nick Sylvester highlighted the fourth inning with a homer to the right field to bring the score to 4-1 for the Marlins.
After four scoreless innings, the Hornets took advantage of errors by the home team and scored four runs to lead the Marlins 5-4.
Ty James recorded a single in the bottom of the ninth, but VWU was unable to score, giving the University of Lynchburg the 5-4 win.
Next, the Marlins will host Averett for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5 with game times at 12:00 and 3:00 p.m.
