The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team (6-7, 4-3 ODAC) battled Averett University and Ferrum College on the same day, falling to the former 6-1 and emerging over the latter 5-2.

The Cougars picked up 6-1 wins at the #1 and #3 positions to secure the doubles point; and
Zoe Vliegen and
Mikisha Thomas battled at the second position but fell short 6-3 to Brenda Poulakidas and Rav. Ramanantoanina.
In singles play, Averett picked up singles wins at #2 over
Zoe Vliegen as Rav. Ramanatoanina won 6-3, 6-0, and at #1 over
Tuva Flink as Siddhi Khandelwal won 6-2, 6-3.
The Cougars clinched the match over the Marlins when Annika Kellerer defeated
Mikisha Thomas at the fifth line by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
Next to finish was
Lina Hackner at #3 singles who battled back after losing the first set 6-4 to win the second by the same score; Hackner's opponent, Harshri Asher regained control in the third set, winning it 6-0.
Haley Haydon was next to complete her match, losing 6-1, 6-0 at the sixth spot.
Highlighting the match for the Marlins was
Jette Hafermann, who fought hard against opponent, Siddhi Khot, and won 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-8.
Match vs Ferrum
VWU swept the doubles as
Sarah Reich and
Chloe Scott teamed up at #1 and
Grace McGhee and
Ashlynn Merritt paired at #2; both teams blanked their opponents to earn the doubles point. The Marlins also won at #3 by forfeit.
Ferrum also forfeited #5 and #6 singles to give the Marlins an early 3-0 advantage. Despite losses at #2 and #3 singles by
Chloe Scott and
Grace McGhee,
Sarah Reich and
Ashlynn Merritt secured straightforward victories at #1 and #4 respectively to secure a 5-2 victory for the Marlins.
The Marlins are set to face Guilford College on Sunday, April 13 at 12 p.m.
