The Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team (6-8, 4-2 ODAC) surged to a 7-0 win over Roanoke College to begin their weekend campaign.
Due to weather constraints, the match was played indoors; and singles competition took place before doubles due to court availability.
Carlos Rullan Zarraga was efficient on court six, blanking his opponent 6-0, 6-0. At #3,
Francis Cabaddu also made quick work with a win by the same score to put the Marlins ahead 2-0.
Next to finish was
Sebastien Muller at the fourth position with a straightforward 6-2, 6-0 victory over Hardt Lesko.
Hovo Madanyan also recorded a straight sets win at #5 by a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Clinching the match for VWU was
Rafael Rullan Zarraga with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Emiliano Ramirez.
Tudor Vlad was last to finish singles on the top court with a 7-6 (8), 6-3 win against Federico Maccari.
The Marlins kept a clean slate in doubles as
Hovo Madanyan and
Sebastien Muller won 6-0 at #2 and were followed by
Tudor Vlad and
Sainandan Challagundla who won by the same score at the third position. Wrapping up the 7-0 win for the Marlins were the Rullan Zarraga twins, who defeated Ian Michel and Emiliano Ramirez by a score of 6-2.
The Marlins are scheduled to face Averett University at 10:30 a.m. and Ferrum College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12.
