The Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team (2-1, 0-1 ODAC) traveled to Pennsylvania to face non-conference Division III opponent, Bryn Mawr College, in a dual match and won 5-2.
Zoe Vliegen and
Mikisha Thomas triumphed over Kelli Eng and Carina Roberts, winning 6-1 at #3 doubles.
Tuva Flink and
Jette Hafermann fell short 6-4 at the top spot; and
Meena Lennon and
Lina Hackner lost in a tiebreaker at #2 to give Bryn Mawr the doubles point.
In singles action, the Marlins found success as
Lina Hackner was first to finish at #4 winning 6-0, 6-3 over Fernanda Hurtado to tie the overall score at 1-1.
Zoe Vliegen and
Jette Hafermann also won in straight sets at #2 and #5 respectively, giving the Marlins a 3-1 lead.
Tuva Flink came up just short at #1 singles, losing 7-5, 6-4 to Sophie Fenster. Clinching the match for the Marlins was
Meena Lennon at #3 who won in a three set battle 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 over Kelli Eng. Rounding out the VWU win was
Sarah Reich at #6 also winning in three sets.
Next, the women will travel to Salisbury University on Friday, March 14 for another non-conference contest with start time set at 2 p.m.
